Went to rome for history and photography. Not disappointed on both scores. Everything is close together with good transport links. Vatican - go early and avoid the queues. St Peters - climb the dome, but be aware you cannot turn back once you start the climb and staircase is quite trim in parts. Coliseum is worth a visit, as is Pantheon and Piazza Navonna. Pantheon, St. Peter's, trevi fountain are free. Fees for vatican and coliseum. Hotel standards are generally basic unless expensive hotels. Most meals are spaghetti, pizza or lasagna and cost a minimum of 12 euros for most. Beer is minimum 4 euros per small bottle. Standard gifts are bags starting off at asking price of 40 euros on street but I got mine for 20 euros. Careful if you book a hotel on 4 th floor - not all have lifts!! Most speak English but found the Italians very pushy. Enjoyable experience and would recommend.
