Your tips Get a bike, do a canal tour, don't miss the Anne Frank House
After living in Amsterdam for 4 years and having made the trip through Schiphol many times for business purposes, it is always a pleasure to revisit Amsterdam for pleasure.
Amsterdam is NOT Holland, so if you want to see the real Netherlands make sure to take daytrips to the sea, the Keukenhof, etc.. But Amsterdam is a complex mix of old Holland, Arts, and History and the new. Nothing is more charming than renting a bike and peddling past the canals late at night, or sitting at the terrace of de Jaaren and having a cold beertje or a great coffee while time passes by.
On every trip there is something new to discover and something familiar to come back "home' to.
