Your tips GOOD SHOES AND SOCKS!! Rome is beautiful to walk along the Tiber River. Spend the money and get a good pair of running shoes (better than walking shoes). Make sure socks don't rub wrong. Walking is an excellent way to get the flavor of areas and highly recommend it. Walk up the river to the Castle of Sant'Angelo. Don't give to peddlers-they are not of Italy, and get a cross over bag to keep your things safe-we felt safe the whole time. Also, we booked about 7 tours with Green Line Tours and they did an excellent job. Receivers and earpiece did the trick to hear the guide best. Take a good camera and be prepared to click away!!!
It is hard to describe Rome in a short period of space. Everything was easy to get to by taxi or bus, our hotel in the Parioli area was safe and quiet, they helped us book tours. Be sure to see all the major sites--you know the ones, but if you can, try to take a couple day trips: we visited Naples, Isle of Capri and Pompeii, all well worth it. We found the people of Rome to be friendly and helpful, most spoke some English. Hard to pick a favorite, but Piazza Navona, Pantheon, Trevi Fountain and St Peter's Basilica are way up there. All basilicas and churches are amazing.
